Third Sector Research Centre report into partnership working published

The Third Sector Research Centre (TSRC) has published a new research report called ‘Partnership Working’. The report aimed to gain an understanding of voluntary sector partnership working – both within and between sectors.

The research contains some interesting findings, and the policy implications outlined in the conclusion will be of particular interest to our members.

Local Government Association: consultation into publishing voluntary sector spending data

The Local Government Association (LGA) has issued a consultation on publishing voluntary sector spending.
The current 'Recommended Code of Practice on Transparency for Local Government' published by the Department for Communities and Local Government expects local authorities to publish grants to the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCS), amongst other datasets.

Cumbria's Clinical Commissioning Group first to sign up to Compact


Cumbria’s Clinical Commissioning Group has become the first in the country to sign up to a local Compact.

 Cumbria has been part of Compact Voice’s Priority Areas Programme – Compact Voice works with different areas across England on specific projects to support Compact work - so we are particularly pleased with this development.

Compact Voice submits response to consultation on DH guidance

Compact Voice has submitted a response to the Department of Health’s draft guidance on developing Health and Wellbeing Board strategies and Joint Strategic Needs Assessments.
In it, we state that we are disappointed that the reference to local Compacts has been weakened from an earlier draft of the document published in January, and recommend that further clarification is made about the role of local Compact groups and agreements.

Cabinet Office updates its Procurement Pledge to support the role of the voluntary and community sector

Cabinet Office has issued an update to its recently published Procurement Pledge, which established a set of principles about how government will procure services with a range of providers. The Pledge, which is for central government and public sector bodies to sign up to, outlines five key commitments that public sector signatories must meet.

Consultation: Joint strategic needs assessments and joint health and wellbeing strategies

There is just over a month left to respond to the Department of Health’s consultation on draft guidance. The guidance will provide a framework for NHS and local government to work together to undertake joint strategic needs assessments and health and wellbeing strategies.
The consultation closes on 28 September. Compact Voice will be responding to this consultation – we will post our response online once it has been submitted.

Eric Pickles: Department now publishing all spend over £250

The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) have agreed to publish all spend data over £250, an important step towards making government spending more transparent.

Compact Voice have been compiling the responses to the Freedom of Information requests we issued recently, what has become clear is that the information about spending that is held by public bodies is very mixed. We will be publishing the full report of the FOI responses next week.

Compact Voice statement on government’s changes to Consultation Guidance


The Cabinet Office recently issued revised Consultation Principles, which replace the Code of Practice on Consultation. Government departments and other public bodies will use the principles for engaging stakeholders when developing policy and legislation.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) has written to local authorities, informing them that there is “no excuse for leaving the voluntary and community sector behind” when it comes to funding allocations.
