Mr Adrian Sanders
1. How important is the charity and voluntary sector to your constituency?
In answer to your questions, which are very much interlinked, I wholly support the voluntary sector in Torbay. Before being elected I spent 5 years running a network of ESF funded, or part-funded, organisations across the South and South West of England, and before that I was the European Policy Officer at NCVO (the National Council for Voluntary Organisations).
I have been privileged to work alongside many third sector organisations during the past 13 years as Member of Parliament. The sector offers vital services to so many people with specialist needs as well as driving a large number of important community activities.
Torbay is lucky to have so many dedicated and skilled volunteers who ensure care and support is available to a diverse range of people across many organisations from health to hobbies, self-help to welfare, aid to sport.

2. What efforts will you make - if elected - to work with local charities and voluntary sector organisations in your constituency?
I would be delighted to be able to continue working for the third sector in the Bay if I am fortunate enough to be re-elected. I want to see such services put at the forefront of thinking by local and national Government, with decision makers seeing how they can work closely with the third sector to create a better Bay and make use of the expertise and resources available through volunteers.
If re-elected I will continue to work in Parliament to ensure that the voluntary sector receives the support and recognition it deserves and in particular I hope to be able to continue as a member of the All Party Group Voluntary Sector Group as well as championing the cause of people with Diabetes as the Chairman of the All Party Group for Diabetes.

3. Will you champion the Compact in your constituency, to encourage better partnership working between the local public sector and the voluntary and community sector?
Locally I will be more than happy to champion the Compact and mediate between local public sector bodies and volunteer groups to ensure that they are working together effectively.

4. Additional comments:
Clearly without the third sector, many services and support would not be provided. The best way for the third sector groups to work is with other interested groups and needs constant review and scrutiny.
