Mr Grahame Morris
1. How important is the charity and voluntary sector to your constituency?
Very important.

The charity and voluntary sector play a very important role in providing services and facilities to disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals in the Easington constituency.
2. What efforts will you make - if elected - to work with local charities and voluntary sector organisations in your constituency?
I will build upon the work I am already involved with through the East Durham Trust (CEO Malcolm Fallow). I am recently appointed to the management committee of the East Durham Partnership based in Horden and am a trustee of the Riding for the Disabled Association based in Haswell. I am also pleased to be associated with Haswell and District MENCAP and Five Helping Hands, a Seaham-based charity. I am a member of the board of the East Durham Area Action Partnership representing the community and voluntary sector.
3. Will you champion the Compact in your constituency, to encourage better partnership working between the local public sector and the voluntary and community sector?
Yes. There is a growing role for the voluntary and community sector through service level agreements with principal local authorities and asset transfers of land and publicly owned buildings. There are synergies that exist when the local public sector and voluntary & community sector work together on service delivery and I would like to act as a catalyst to release these synergies.
4. Additional comments:
I am a long standing supporter of the 3rd sector in the Easington Constituency and am closely associated with Haswell & District Mencap, 5 Helping Hands Charity and currently serve on the East Durham Partnership, a not for profit social enterprise.

I am keen to continue to engage with local groups and charities in the Easington Constituency and try to maintain contact with as many as possible.

I note the services of Compact Voice and the contents of the recently published Refreshed Compact which establishes the principles and commitments to partnership working between government and the third sector.
