Mr Chris Williamson
1. How important is the charity and voluntary sector to your constituency?
Absolutely vital. I firmly believe that an active and vibrant third sector is a huge asset in Derby North and plays a big role in improving people’s lives.
2. What efforts will you make - if elected - to work with local charities and voluntary sector organisations in your constituency?
I will continue to work hard with the Voluntary and Community Sector through Community Action and with individual organisations. I have a strong record in working with the VCS in the City and would want to develop this further if elected as an MP. I have an understanding of the local sector and am keen to see further development and improvement.
3. Will you champion the Compact in your constituency, to encourage better partnership working between the local public sector and the voluntary and community sector?
I certainly will. During my time as Council leader we very much encouraged the Council and the voluntary sector to work together and we saw a flourishing third sector emerge who were vital to the City and its residents. I would continue this approach in Westminster and would be an advocate for what the third sector can achieve. It is hugely important that central and local government work with local and national charities for the benefit of the public.
