Mr Martin Horwood
1. How important is the charity and voluntary sector to your constituency?
Very important. Voluntary and third sector organisations make a huge contribution to life in Cheltenham from hospital services to patient support, from housing and homelessness advice to environmental campaigning to animal welfare to civic pride.
2. What efforts will you make - if elected - to work with local charities and voluntary sector organisations in your constituency?
I will renew my existing efforts which have included campaigning alongside third sector organisations for better carer support, good sports facilities and green spaces for everyone to enjoy, acting as a patron of a homelessness charity, President of my local RSPCA, trustee of Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind and working to support the aims of locally based national charities like Naturewatch and WellChild.
3. Will you champion the Compact in your constituency, to encourage better partnership working between the local public sector and the voluntary and community sector?
Yes. I have some doubts about the operation of the Compact in practice but I will certainly champion the good partnership principles contained in it. Indeed I have already tried to do so.
