Mr Paul Goggins
1. How important is the charity and voluntary sector to your constituency?
The voluntary and community sector plays a vital role across the whole constituency including Sale East. A wide variety of groups make a huge contribution to family and community life.
2. What efforts will you make - if elected - to work with local charities and voluntary sector organisations in your constituency?
Over the last 13 years as MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, I have always sought to work alongside the voluntary sector and wherever possible act as an advocate with fundraisers and local policy makers.I will continue to work for an appreciation in Government of the importance of the voluntary and community sector and for an approach at national level that complements the huge difference such groups make locally.
3. Will you champion the Compact in your constituency, to encourage better partnership working between the local public sector and the voluntary and community sector?

4. Additional comments:
I strongly support the Compact – indeed in 2005/06 I was the Home Office Minister with responsibility for the voluntary sector and took a number of initiatives to promote the Compact, including the importance of stable three year funding arrangements. I support a greater role for voluntary organisations in the delivery of public services provided this is properly funded.
